Overview
A walkway is the first thing a visitor stands on, and the surface your family crosses every single day in every kind of weather. That daily, year-round use is exactly why we build front walkways to the same base spec as a driveway. It's deliberate overkill. A path that gets full freeze-thaw exposure needs to still be flat and safe in fifteen years, not just this summer.
Under the pavers goes four to six inches of compacted road base, an inch of bedding sand, edge restraint in stainless steel or concrete depending on the setting, and polymeric joint sand to lock everything and keep the joints clean. Where it makes sense we pre-run conduit for low-voltage path lighting or, on north-facing entries that stay icy, a heated walkway. Both are inexpensive to wire during the build and a real project to retrofit afterward.
Width is the detail people get wrong. A front walkway should be four feet minimum so two people can walk side by side, and five feet if you want it to feel generous. Anything under three feet reads like a service path to the side gate. If you're matching an existing paver line we'll find the closest current product, and if yours is discontinued we can run a complementary contrast band so the join looks intentional instead of mismatched. How wide should a front walkway be?

Usually, yes. If your paver line is still made, we'll source the closest current match. If it's been discontinued, which happens more than you'd think, we can either find the nearest equivalent or run a complementary contrast paver as an intentional band so the join looks designed rather than mismatched. Either way we'd rather show you the options at the walk than surprise you with a colour that doesn't quite line up once it's installed.
